SodaStream

Making it easier for Australians to make healthier and more sustainable choices, Sodastream offers innovative products that are designed to change the way the world drinks.

Our commitment

More than 583 billion single use plastic bottles are produced each year, and many end up in landfill or pollute our oceans and waterways. At SodaStream, our mission is to revolutionise the beverage industry by empowering Australians, to make better choices for themselves, their families, and for the planet.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

    • We believe in protecting the planet and consider the environmental impacts of every single component in our packaging design. Our carboard packaging is made from recycled cartons and is fully recyclable, and the protective bags that cover the Sprit Sparkling Water Maker are fully biodegradable. • We have also created a circular economy. All Sparkling Water Makers that are returned to SodaStream are refurbished for resale or disassembled and fully recycled through our e-waste recyclers. Precious materials such as batteries, lights, plugs and metals are removed and recovered, and the remaining plastic components are shredded for reuse.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

The health, wellness and satisfaction of our customers is paramount. At SodaStream, we have created a home carbonation system that turns ordinary tap water into sparkling refreshment in seconds providing a more sustainable alternative to store-bought beverages. Our system utilises a BPA free carbonating bottle that can be used many times and for up to three years (and saves the average Australian family thousands of single use plastic bottles). Our triple quality checked, highest food grade CO2 cylinders (each cylinder makes up to 60L of sparkling water and drinks) are a part of a circular economy – returned to SodaStream, cleaned, refilled and put out to market for re-use once empty. And for our consumers that want to add some flavour to their bubbly creation, we offer a broad range of flavours, including our great range of Pepsi for SodaStream flavours ranged at Woolworths, that empower shoppers to add as much or as little flavour as they like – so that they can make drinks to suit their personal tastes and preferences.

  • How are the service/s you offer environmentally friendly?

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

SodaStream works with local factories to produce all products in an ethical and sustainable way

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

Our commitment to creating a better planet extends beyond reducing single use plastic waste. • Since 2016, we have been a partner and supporter of Clean Up Australia, contributing to the great work they’ve been doing for over 25 years. • Each year, Earth Month (April) is an important time of year with the launch of our global campaign that encourages people to take action for a better, healthier planet. This year SodaStream partnered with SEE Turtles, an NGO that protects sea turtles worldwide. We donated funds from each sparkling water maker sold around the world, and helped save more than 1 million baby sea turtles. • In June 2022 we joined forces with local animal rescue organisation, Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service (WIRES). The funds raised are being donated to WIRES’ education, rescuing and rehabilitation programs.

  • How has your company made a commitment to achieve and maintain inclusion & diversity (e.g. Gender / Race / Ethnicity / National Origin / Sexual Orientation / Religion / Disability / Age)?

SodaStreams Island of Peace is a social responsibility campaign that provides an accurate depiction of our everyday reality in our main manufacturing facility in Lehavim. Pairs of employees who work side-by-side on the manufacturing floor every day were filmed sharing their experience in an authentic and uncensored way, portraying genuine coexistence. Our campaign tells a story of humanity and social responsibility, consistent with our corporate values and DNA. Our working environment fosters a diverse workforce including Bedouins, Palestinians, and Israelis. We at SodaStream believe that corporations must play a vital role in generating change – SodaStream is an equal opportunity employer, promoting diversity by connecting people from various ethnic, religious, and social-economic backgrounds. We hope this campaign will continue to have a lasting global social impact, telling a universal story relevant for everyone everywhere. We strongly believe in corporate social responsibility as a key driver for positive social change.
