What is Green Friday?

In 2022, Green Friday was Australia’s first sustainability-focused 4-day online shopping event! It allowed you to shop sustainability-focused offers with consideration and mindfulness. As a nation, we no longer 'should' do better in terms of sustainability, we need to and that’s why we began Green Friday. Our event featured 150+ Australian retailers and brands who had offers within the sustainability, re-commerce or circular economy space. Our main aim was to celebrate their sustainability journeys and promote their sustainability-focused deals.

In 2023, we are launching Australia’s sustainability-focused retail movement, including featuring more informative sustainability content and more highly anticipated, sustainability-focused events and deals. Participating brands will now have a year-round presence on the Green Friday website to showcase where they are at on their sustainability journey and promote sustainability-focused deals. Additionally, we are launching Green Friday, Buy Better, a world-class newsletter curated just for YOU. This newsletter will feature Friday Finds, being our top picks of sustainability-focused deals and also authentic and informative sustainability content, including green news and sustainability tips!

How does it work?

We have extended Green Friday far beyond the 4-day event in previous years. On our platform you will find year-round brand pages about our incredible partners, outlining their progress on their sustainability journey. There is endless sustainability content to be found in our blogs and across our socials (give us a follow @greenfridayau). By signing up to our newsletter, Green Friday, Buy Better, you will gain access to tonnes of sustainability-focused deals and content (sign up now). Our plan is to facilitate more green events coming very soon…so keep an eye out for more information!

How do we choose which brands can join the movement?

Not all brands are eligible to participate in Green Friday. We choose to work with brands that are committed to their sustainability journey and helping Australian consumers buy better. In order to maintain transparency with consumers, Green Friday participants have to complete a sustainability framework where their answers are made public on their brand page. You can access their brand page by clicking on their logo on our homepage! We wanted you, as the consumer, to choose to support brands that align with what is important to you, whether that is environmental policies, sustainability certifications and more.

How does Green Friday give back?

As well as talking the talk, we wanted to walk the walk. That’s why we partnered with organisations pioneering the sustainable retail space and are still on a mission to accelerate sustainability initiatives in Australia. Here's a little more about who we partnered with:

  • Good360
We are proud to have worked with Good360 as our exclusive Charity Partner. We made a donation to Good360 Australia as a part of our 1% for the Planet commitment. Good360 Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that connects charities, schools and society’s most vulnerable with businesses willing to donate unsold or surplus goods, services and disaster recovery essentials. Their mission is to ensure the excess goods and services businesses produce every year flow to people in need rather than going to waste. The result is a Circle of Good that reduces need and waste in our communities at the same time, so everyone benefits – from people to the planet.
  • 1% for the Planet
We are a member of 1% for the Planet because we want to give back and connect with causes that have a real impact. We pledged 1% of our Green Friday sales towards verified environmental and social nonprofits.
  • Carbon Neutral
We partnered with Carbon Neutral, the longest-standing carbon offset provider in Australia. We have supported their Yarra Biodiversity project, a large-scale reforestation effort to help protect our Yarra river.
  • Sustainable Choice
We are a proud foundation member of Sustainable Choice. Sustainable choice call on the world's best brands to publish their sustainability commitments publicly and transparently. They empower consumer choice by making it easy to find sustainability information before you shop.
